I have never used a professional slide copier so I cannot compare it, but I can say this, if the slide is a good one, you cannot tell it from a recent high quality digital camera photo. I was amazed.It is basically a close up lens. (it even states that in the instructions it is removable to use as a close up lens with 52mm threads) It then has a plastic barrel with a slide holder at the end. The plastic is of decent quality and the parts fit together well. The slide holder end has a square bottom so all you have to do is, hook it to the camera, set it and the camera on a table, point it at a reasonable light source (diffused sunlight) and start copying. I set my camera on "close up", no flash, and in the automatic mode. It is very easy to use.It may be a little over priced since it is simple in design, but considering the cost of converting your old slides, it is a bargain. I, as one other reviewer noted, found the old cardboard mounted slides, when placed for a vertical shot, are really hard to remove. I had a pair of pliers on the table to remove them. All other slides and positions worked just fine.If the slide is of poor quality and it has a lot of sky in it, you will see the diffusion texture behind the slide where the daylight enters the copier. Otherwise, it is not a problem.If you want to preserve your slides, (some of mine were already deteriorating) then consider this little device, by all means.
